Hiking
Kathmandu
2,782 meters tall
Highlights include vistas of the Annapurna and Gaurishankar mountains as well as a subtropical forest and breath-taking views of the Kathmandu Valley.
Hike between 6.5 and 7 hours
The highest hill close to Kathmandu is called Phulchowki, and it is located south of the city. Drive 14 km south of Kathmandu to Godawari, where the hike begins, to get there. You will be able to witness a variety of orchid species, butterflies, birds, and deep subtropical woods full of oak and rhododendron trees. On clear days, one can see the eastern Annapurna range all the way to Gaurishankar in the east from the summit, which offers amazing views of the valley. Why not visit the Godawari Botanical Gardens while you're there?
Reaching It (For Independent Trekkers)
Every day at 7 am, a bus departs from Lagankhel Bus Park, taking 30 minutes to arrive at Godawari (traffic permitting).
What to Do?
In Godawari, in addition to a more upscale resort, there are teahouses and lodges where you can spend the night if you so choose. Camping is also an option if you have a tent. Do make sure to pitch your tent in a secure area.
