Muktinath

Muktinath Temple is an historical pilgrimage located at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,172ft.) at the base of Thorong La Pass in the district of Mustang. It holds religious significance for each Hindu and Buddhist communities. This sacred place is an epitome of brotherhood between the two groups.

Hindus call the place Mukti Kshetra, which capacity ‘the vicinity of salvation’. It is one of the most ancient temples committed to Lord Vishnu and his followers- the Vaishnavas in the Himalayan country of Nepal. The shrine is regarded one of the eight sacred places referred to as Swayam Vyakta Kshetras (the other seven being Srirangam, Srimushnam, Tirupati, Naimsharanya, Pushkar, and Badrinath). It is one of the 108 holy locations for the worship of Lord Vishnu referred to as Divya Desam. It is one of the fifty one shakti pithas dedicated to Goddess Sati (Shakti), the spouse of Lord Shiva.
